Gas engineers are restoring supplies to the final few homes still affected by a burst water main which flooded into the gas main. All gas systems in 64 homes, two hotels and a college in Brockenhurst had to be shut down by engineers on Monday.SGN said it had removed more than 2,420 gallons (11,000 litres) of water from flooded pipes. The company said it will pay £30 in compensation for every 24-hour period, after the first day of disruption.A spokeswoman for SGN said: “Fifteen homes are still off – but they are due to be revisited. As soon as we can regain access they will be back on.”

Resident Sharon Brien, who lost her supply on Monday said: “Fortunately for us we have a fire and a log burner so were were able to warm up, but it was bed socks and jumpers for bed because it was very cold at night.”I’m very happy to have had a hot shower.”Water got into the mains after workers from Southern Water damaged the gas main.Two-way temporary traffic lights remain in place in Lyndhurst Road outside Careys Manor Hotel while the works are completed.
