Tribute to cyclist killed in Woolston lorry crash


A 64-year-old cyclist who died in a crash was a “kind, generous and fun-loving man”, his family has said.John Morris died in a collision with a lorry on Portsmouth Road, Woolston near Southampton’s Itchen Bridge on Monday afternoon.His family described him as “a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather”.In a statement, his family also thanked the emergency services for “their efforts trying to help John”.

Police have urged anyone who witnessed the crash or who has dashcam footage to come forward.Detectives have also specifically appealed for two people – a woman pushing a pram who was seen at the nearby pedestrian crossing and a man who was wearing a light coloured top and jeans seen walking past Saint Patrick’s Church – to contact them.A 50-year-old man from Stockport, arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, has been released while inquiries continue.Transport company Robert Walker Haulage said it was assisting the police and would be conducting its own investigation.
